This piece is emblematic of the superb satire that used to appear in the pages of the New Yorker in its golden age. Now that most of publishing is enjoying its Mud Age, it would be likd pearls before swine.
As one who works in a large academic library, this was all too real to read... We recently hired a librarian who, in her interview, spoke quite passionately of "citation justice"... (I should say "they recently hired". I preferred another, less woke, candidate, but was very much outnumbered)
Thank you for these invaluable lists & reviews, which I may use as reference for end of year gift-giving (formerly known as Christmas) - as toxic works to avoid, of course! 😉 So grateful for you, dear Ben!
This is so well done I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bunch of libs share it!
The voice I use does seem to elude some people. Too close to home, I guess!

Thank you so much. That means a ton 🙏
Thank you for providing us with this rare opportunity to smile.
Thank you for reading it!
True satire requires commitment, and you were obviously committed to this insanity. I love it!
Thank you 🙏

It’s all too patronising and idiotic to contemplate. A secular form of fundamentalism dressed up as “educated”.
Oh thank you for making me laugh out loud on a Monday morning! Genius 😂
Thank you 🙏
If I copy and paste this to use as my Christmas letter will you prosecute me on ‘own voice’ grounds? (I might do it regardless!)
I would consider it a collective act of citation justice, so copy and paste away.

I might have had the holidays in mind. Gonna do a Thomas Sowell special for Advent. ‘Tis the season for The Vision of the Anointed (1995).
Thank you so much for always reading my nonsense!
Never nonsense! Wit and wisdom - always welcomed!
